My Goals for 2018

My first blog of 2018!! 🎉

Wow...I am so excited, and feel incredibly blessed,  that I'm still alive! As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, back in 2012; and, according to medical science, I'm supposed to be dead.

For the last 5.5 years, I've been living on borrowed time, but not really...living. For a while I've been plugging myself as "The Savvy Survivor", and I've really tried to live by that persona. Being savvy, while in the care of others, has proven to be very difficult! Most of the time, I still eat what everyone else eats; and, I still struggle with food addictions.

No offense to those who love me, but I really wish they'd stop feeding me normal food! I don't want it, but I have trouble saying "no". I've even gained weight, that had previously been shed. This year, I'll have to get a little more assertive with them.

I don't want to live with cancer, anymore; and I certainly don't want to die. I've read so many articles, and anecdotal stories, about folks getting rid of terminal cancers, just by going vegan....I know that's the path I'm supposed to be on! If I could just get my support system on the same page, I'd be half way to my goal  by now!

I created a list of goals I want to accomplish, by the end of the year. I showed them to my daughter, and the first thing she did was try and talk me out of it; the first part, anyway. I'm pretty sure she meant well, but the feel I got was "you're setting yourself up to fail". I never asked for, or wanted, advice; I just simply showed her my list of goals.

She said she doesn't see me quitting junk food (etc), cold turkey. I quit smoking, cold turkey....and I had quit junk, before. I know I can do it....it would be nice if other's had faith in me, too. That's been the issue, all along; whoever is seeing to my care also seems to think they know what's best for me, as far as my diet is concerned.

There have only been a few family members who applaud my "Weirdo Diet", and encourage me to keep it up; and neither of them has been my caregiver. My sister, while keeping my meals clean, kept feeding me meat; and my daughter keeps feeding me what she's addicted to (junk foods, comfort foods, snack cakes, soda, etc).

To be fair, one fourth of her grocery haul is "Weirdo Diet" (fresh veggies, fresh fruits, nuts, etc). But that's not helping me,  because most of what she cooks is "normal" (Standard American Diet). And I still need to eat, even if it's food I don't want.

I'm going to have to move out, and get my own apartment, so I can be the one orchestrating the food haul. She's still going to be the one buying the food....but she'll be buying what I want to eat. That should help me reach my goals!

Since this blog is about my list of goals, I've decided to share that list with you. I won't call them "New Year's Resolutions", because it's a safe bet I'll break them if I use that label (I'm notorious for that!). But, I thought about what I wanted for myself, and came up with some goals that I believe are attainable.

Here's to a successful year!! 💜
