Thanksgiving 2020

Happy Thanksgiving to my American fans; may this day find you blessed and healthy! To all of my fans, wherever you are, I count each and every one of you as a blessing; and I am grateful to have you in my life!

This year has been a very difficult year for everyone; what we thought was going to be another "flu season" has endured the entire year; it has caused more deaths, unemployment, and hardships than any other pandemic in history.  But, those of us who have survived this year, have that to be thankful for...we're still here! There is hope, on the horizon!

I am especially thankful for the breath in my lungs, considering I almost died back in August! It is crystal clear to me, that my journey on this planet is not completed, yet. And while I can still draw breath, I have decided to make the most of the time that has been given to me. Bonus points to anyone who can tell me what movie I just referenced!

As you navigate though your day, whether you are with your loved ones or not, take the time to reflect on all of the good things that have happened in your life, this year; I'm sure it's not going to be easy, but it will totally be worth it. It hasn't all been bad, this year...what can you consider a blessing? What are you grateful for, this year?

My Thanksgiving dinner will be slightly varied, this year; in previous years, I just left the turkey off my plate, and at a little bit of everything else. This year, now that I have an ulcer to care for, my daughter will be revamping my menu. Instead of mashed potatoes, I'll be eating a baked potato; same with the sweet potato...no candied yams for me! I'm still going to eat green beans; but instead of eating the standard green bean casserole, I'll be eating sauteed green beans with mushrooms and onions. Here's the recipe, if you want to try it. And, no dessert.

Sugar, dairy, meat, and certain spices are bad for ulcers; I've had experience with what it feels like to eat something my tummy isn't happy about; trust me, it's not fun! I've also learned that it's very easy to re-open a healed ulcer, or cause more once one has developed. So now, I will continue to learn what my tummy enjoys, and what it doesn't; and live according to that protocol. I'd rather live without certain foods, than die from a perforated ulcer!

I realize through the years, I've gone back and forth between healthy lifestyle and unhealthy lifestyle; but I truly believe that this ulcer is a blessing. GERD flare ups are not pleasant, and every time I eat something my tummy doesn't like, it doesn't hesitate to remind me to mind my P's and Q's. So, this time around, I'm sure I'll be more successful at eating properly.

I'm going to close on that note. And once again, wish all of my American fans a Happy Thanksgiving! To the rest of you....I hope your day is a pleasant one! And, thank you all, for continuing on my journey with me!
