Starting Over....Again

The last time I had a Blog, I stopped posting right around Christmas time....two years ago. So, now it's time to start over.

A lot has happened since I dropped the ball on my Blog, two years ago...my health has been a constant yo-yo, between feeling good and struggling (repetitive infections, short stays in the hospital, etc); it got so bad, I moved in with my daughter and grandchildren in GA. At one point, I became temporarily paralyzed, as the result of an aggressive tumor in my lower spine (it's all good now). I also helped her get herself and the babies away from an abusive man. The four of us have relocated to Ohio, and are in the process of rebuilding our lives.

Side Note: If you, or someone you know, is in an abusive relationship
please call the Domestic Violence Hotline!
They are there to help...and they will!

Now that I'm back in Ohio, I'll be getting back in touch with the folks at Akron General Medical Center, to continue my fight against breast cancer; come July 3rd, it'll be five years since I was diagnosed! I'm ready to be back in remission (I was in remission for 7 months during the second year of my journey), to be honest; conventional treatments don't seem to work, long term. And the side effects are horrible!

I had to have radiation treatments, when I became paralyzed; it was the quickest way to shrink the tumor that was pressing on my spinal cord. A painful experience, to say the least! After that ordeal, I hooked up with Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and had some more radiation to shrink a few more problematic tumors; as a result, I've spent the better part of a year with skin so dry and scaly, I look like I rolled around in ashes! I've also been sterilized...radiation-induced menopause (radiation to the pelvic region will do that).

Now, the menopause I'm not complaining about (LOL!), but the dry skin has been an absolute nightmare! I've tried everything I can think of, from conventional moisturizers to straight aloe from the plant, and nothing is relieving the dryness or itching. I've been told my skin issue is not a side effect of radiation, but I've never had skin THIS dry, over my entire body, before undergoing radiation treatments. So, I'm inclined to believe that it is a side effect.

While all of this transitioning and moving, and helping, was going on I slipped again; I fell off the "Weirdo Lifestyle" bandwagon. I call it a "weirdo lifestyle" because...well, I am a weirdo, to be honest. But, mostly I call it this because the majority of my friends and family are carnivores who don't believe that being a vegetarian/vegan is a wise decision. It's strange, unconventional, and....weird. They do support me, though; however, I'm sure in the back of their minds they think I'm making the wrong choices.

Let me show you the path I've been trying to follow, since the start of my journey....

For nearly five years, I've been bouncing back and forth from "Weirdo Lifestyle" to conventional lifestyle; I try to stay on track, as much as possible, but when you rely on others/live with others it's very difficult to follow a strict protocol....especially when those others don't.

My daughter is one of the "others", although she's a bit more on board with my lifestyle choices than most. While we were still in GA, she made it a point to purchase more raw fruits and veggies, because that's what I need to eat. We are currently staying with a family who lives by the Standard American Diet; I eat as "weirdo" as I can, but I can feel the difference. They do cater to my "Weirdo Lifestyle" when they can; but they live on a very tight budget...and they're currently feeding 10 people (their family and mine). So I eat what they serve me, and I'm grateful for the food I'm given.

Once my family is in our own place, I'll jump back on the wagon; and, moving forward, I see an announcement of "No evidence of disease" in my future!

So....here's to starting over!!
